‘Best team in Scotland’ – Rival club chairman pays Rangers massive complement

Falkirk chairman Gary Deans has said his club will ‘get a huge buzz’ from playing Rangers in the last 16 of the Betfred Cup while hailing the Gers as the ‘best team in Scotland’.

The Gers were drawn against Falkirk on Sunday evening and the game will be played at the Falkirk Stadium on the weekend of November 28.

Deans has claimed that his team are facing the toughest test possible as they look to progress in the competition but admitted he’d rather Falkirk drew a big club than a smaller club.

Deans is quoted by The Scottish Sun as saying, “The players and the managers will get a huge buzz from it, I’m sure of that. We have started the new season pretty well.

“And even though there won’t be Falkirk fans in the ground they will get the chance to see their team up against the side that, right now, are the best team in Scotland.

“And in that sense we couldn’t have asked for a tougher game for our team, absolutely not. But would we rather have that than a low-key game against one of the other sides? Probably not, to be honest.”

Rangers will be looking to win the Betfred Cup this season after losing the trophy to Celtic in last year’s final.

The Hoops won 1-0 in what proved to be a hugely controversial game. The Gers dominated Celtic from the first whistle and they could have been out of sight by half-time.

In the second half, Alfredo Morelos missed a penalty and Celtic scored a goal that was incorrectly ruled as on-side as they left Steven Gerrard thinking what might have been.

The Betfred Cup presents the earliest opportunity for the Gers to end the silverware drought at Ibrox with the final currently scheduled to take place on February 28 next year.

A cup win would give Gerrard’s side huge confidence going into the final stages of the season. Hopefully, there will be more chances for silverware at that point if the Gers can continue their unbeaten league start and start well in the Scottish Cup when they enter that competition in January.
