‘World class’, ‘Get him in the first-team’ – Many Rangers fans wowed by Ibrox youngster display
Rangers fans have been raving about winger Glenn Middleton after he scored for the Scotland Under-21s side in their 2-2 draw with Croatia on Thursday.
Although all the focus has, understandably, been on the Scotland senior team this week, the Under-21s managed to pull off a good result of their own by coming from two goals down to draw with Croatia.
Ex-Rangers youngster Billy Gilmour was controversially sent off in the four-goal stalemate but it was Middleton, 20, who caught the eye of Rangers fans on Twitter when he managed to get himself on the scoresheet with a strike from the edge of the penalty area.
Admittedly, Middleton was helped out by some shocking goalkeeping but the fact remains that the winger still has the ability to cause problems on the wing due to his ability to cut inside.
Middleton hasn’t played for Rangers since the 2018/19 season.
Last term he failed to impress on loan at Hibernian before joining Bradford in January and barely playing before the season was curtailed early.
But Rangers fans seem as though they would be willing to see Middleton handed another chance in Steven Gerrard’s first-team based on the reaction to his performance on Thursday.
One fan claims Middleton “can still do a job” in the senior squad while another has tipped him to fill the void left by Jordan Jones, who disgraced himself earlier this month by breaking COVID-19 rules.

Middleton showed in 2018/19 that he has the ability to be able to play for Rangers’ first-team by playing 28 times in all competitions, scoring five goals and supplying five assists in the process.
Gerrard, as quoted by BBC Sport, dubbed the former Norwich winger as a “terrific finisher” and seemed to be a massive fan of the youngster.
It hasn’t quite worked out for Middleton since but that could change if he gets another chance this season.
In other Rangers news, Brian Kerr has been raving about this Gers ace who could leave Ibrox next year.
