Rangers ace ordered to take additional COVID-19 test after Wednesday scare – report
Rangers defender Borna Barisic will not have to self-isolate after Croatia teammate Domagoj Vida tested positive for COVID-19.
Glasgow Evening Times have reported that the Bears left-back will travel to Sweden as planned for the Nations League clash on Saturday.
However, the Swedish authorities have ordered the Croatians to take an extra test, after Vida completed 45 minutes of action before finding out his fate.
So, it appears as though Barisic isn’t out of the woods yet.
The left-back has played a vital part at Ibrox this season and would be a big miss for Steven Gerrard over the next two weeks if he has to miss out.
As things stand, Calvin Bassey will be waiting to see if he will be called upon, with this additional test potentially bringing back negative news.
Barisic is already in Stockholm ready for the clash, and one player who he is likely to not meet is Filip Helander.
His fellow defender didn’t travel to Denmark on Wednesday due to strict new COVID-19 regulations that would make him miss upcoming games with Aberdeen and Benfica.
Should Helander and Barisic have been ruled out, Gerrard would have had to make do with a make-shift defence in two crucial clashes.
It begs the question as to why international friendlies with no bearing behind them are going ahead during a global pandemic.
Rangers have been lucky to not have been effected that drastically, but this proves that the Bears can be hit with a massive blow at any time, and they must be prepared for the worst.
