‘Pivotal’ – Kris Boyd blown away by Rangers ace making ‘big, big difference’ at Ibrox

Kris Boyd has singled out Rangers defender Conor Goldson as a “pivotal” player at Ibrox this season.

The Sky Sports pundit admitted that the enforcer is playing full of confidence, and is one of the main reasons behind their defensive record.

Rangers have only conceded three goals in their 14 games this season, and have a considerable buffer over Celtic in terms of goal difference.

Speaking on Sky Sports’ Scottish Football Podcast, Boyd highlighted how pivotal Goldson has become for the Bears this season.

“The one for me who has really, really impressed this year for Rangers and is making a big, big difference to the clean sheet thing, is Conor Goldson,” he said.

“You can hear him organising, communicating and that’s maybe something that we’ve said before that was lacking, but not so much now. He wants to get on the ball, he wants to start things.

“I thought it was another accomplished performance from the Rangers centre-half – he’s pivotal to how high they are to go and press. He’s got a big influence.”

Steven Gerrard has built the heart of his side around the likes of Goldson and Glen Kamara, but as Boyd points out, it’s the defender who takes the responsibility.

The 27-year-old has started to command the Bears vocally and is the one player who launches the press from the players ahead of him.

Despite cruising to victory against Hamilton, Goldson made sure that their standards didn’t drop for one slight moment.

Goldson won 100% of his defensive duels according to WyScout and made sure that the Accies failed to have a single shot all afternoon.

The defender has stepped up this season, and will be pivotal should the Gers finally lift the title after nine years of hurt and torment.
