Int’l chief claims people are ‘trying to destroy’ Rangers ace
The technical director of the Romanian FA has launched a scathing attack on people who are ‘trying to destroy’ Rangers attacker Ianis Hagi.
Hagi hasn’t started any of the Gers last three games and has been relegated to Romania’s under 21 set up for the current set of international games.
Mihai Stoichita has now spoken out about the treatment of Hagi and said it is wrong for people to ‘glorify’ young prospects.
Stoichita is quoted by The Scottish Sun as saying, “They are trying to destroy Ianis Hagi. It hurts a lot, we give our value players such a hard upbringing.
“We venerate them for some performances a year ago, we glorify them, and then, at the same time, we try to destroy them in two matches. You can’t do that!”
Hagi started the season in good form but the 22-year-old has fallen out of favour over at Ibrox over the last few weeks.
The Romanian has registered eight assists in 16 games this season which is a decent return for a winger but he will be disappointed with the solitary goal he has managed in all competitions.
He needs to prove that the decision to sign him permanently this summer wasn’t a bad one by the Light Blues after he impressed while on loan last term.
While he might not be starting games for Steven Gerrard’s side at the moment it is likely that he will soon be given another chance in the first team due to the hectic festive schedule the Gers face.
If Hagi can recover some form in the upcoming games then he will hopefully be able to get his Ibrox career and international prospects back on track.
