‘Finally’ – Jamie Carragher responds after seeing what McCoist said about Rangers

Jamie Carragher has responded on Twitter after seeing that Ally McCoist tried to sign him while he was in charge of Rangers.

Speaking on talkSPORT, as quoted by the Glasgow Evening Times, McCoist said that he phoned Gary McAllister to ask him about landing Carragher when he was on his way out of Anfield to retire.

McCoist also described Carragher as a “top player” but wasn’t able to sign him because he was already starting off his career in the media.

Sky Sports pundit Carragher has since responded to McCoist’s reveal via his personal Twitter account.

The former Liverpool defender said: “Finally, I’ve found out another club did want to sign me and thought I was half decent.”

Carragher is one of the most under-rated defenders in Premier League history, in our opinion.

As McCoist went on to say, the ex-England international had to compete with some very big English defenders when he was around with Rio Ferdinand, John Terry and Sol Campbell among them.

Carragher won the Champions League and two FA Cups at Liverpool but by the time he retired in 2013, he was 35 years old.

We’ll never know how Carragher would have done in the Scottish Premiership but he wasn’t the biggest of defenders and at that age, might have struggled with the physical side of the game north of the border.

However, Carragher was an excellent reader of the game – perhaps one of the best in England in the last few decades – and that may have made up for what he lacked physically by the time he was in his mid-30s.
