Super computer predicts who will win 20/21 Premiership and by how many points
US-based data website FiveThirtyEight has Rangers as the heavy favourites to win the Scottish Premiership, according to their model.
The website makes running predictions on the winners of numerous different football leagues based on data analytics.
Currently, it gives Steven Gerrard’s side a 65% chance of winning the title based on its metrics, with Celtic given a 34% chance.
With a Soccer Power Index of 66.6, it rates Rangers as the best side in the division at this stage, with the best defensive rating and second best attacking rating.
Based on the current projections, FiveThirtyEight predict the Ibrox club will finish the season on 95 points, five ahead of Celtic on 90, with goal difference totals of +72 and +66 respectively.
An interesting factor in these predictions as compared to previous years is that they have placed less of an emphasis on home-field advantage, with fans not allowed to attend matches at the majority of grounds.
This could of course change by the end season, with Ross County hosting 300 fans on Friday for their meeting with Livingston.
Renowned for its political coverage, FiveThirtyEight called the recent US Presidential Election correctly, but will that translate to Scottish football?
With the model taking into account match data from this season, it is no surprise to see that Rangers are being favoured.
Not only did they beat their Old Firm rivals Celtic at Parkhead, they have conceded just three goals so far this season.
Their 8-0 win over Hamilton Academical on Sunday was the biggest win of the season so far and evidence that Gerrard may be starting to truly unlock the attack.
Celtic do have two games in hand on the Gers, but with a nine-point gap the pressure is very much on Neil Lennon’s side.
The challenge for Rangers is to simply remain consistent and ensure that the Europa League does not become a distraction.
