‘Top professionals’ – Rangers star names two teammates that set example for the squad

Rangers midfielder Ryan Jack believes that the professionalism of Steven Davis and Scott Arfield sets an example for the rest of the squad.

The Gers beat Hamilton Academical 8-0 on Sunday to maintain their nine-point lead at the top of the Scottish Premiership.

With boss Steven Gerrard keen to rotate his squad on a regular basis, Jack was withdrawn at half-time, but the midfielder is aware that the whole squad must play its part if the club are to achieve its ambitions.

“If we want to be successful then everyone is going to have to play their part and step up over the course of the season,” he said (via Daily Record).

“Training is always a high standard and you have to be at it every day. If you train with those standards, then you take that into games. I have always had that from a young age and every time I train I give it my best.

“You watch the likes of Steven Davis and Scott Arfield and see how they live their lives every day. They are top professionals. It is a great time for me in my career where I am playing alongside international players.”

Davis and Arfield are 35 and 32 years old respectively, but both continue to impress in the centre of midfield and play in the most important matches.

Both have racked up more than 10 Scottish Premiership appearances so far this season, although Gerrard has been keen to rotate in order to his entire squad fresh.

With Calvin Bassey, Ryan Kent, Glen Kamara, Ianis Hagi and Joe Aribo all beginning to play a more important role, Rangers have looked to develop a younger core in recent seasons. However, as Jack states, experienced internationals like Davis and Arfield can pass down crucial lessons to this younger generation.

Both continue to provide an impact too, justifying their regular involvement. Arfield has scored three goals and provided four assists in the league, while Davis remains one of Gerrard’s most accurate and metronomic passers in midfield (via WhoScored).
