‘Remarkable’ – Danny Murphy makes big Rangers Europa & Premiership claim

Danny Murphy has said that Rangers have put themselves in a “great position” to win the Premiership but warned that Steven Gerrard should prioritise the league over Europe.

Rangers won 8-0 on Sunday against an admittedly poor Hamilton side and are still unbeaten in all competitions.

The win maintained their nine-point lead at the top of the Premiership and Rangers have scored 34 goals and only conceded three in the league all season.

Rangers are top of their Europa group and in a strong position to qualify for the knockouts.

Talking on the Jim White Show (talkSPORT, Monday, 10am), Murphy said, “I think what they’ve done is remarkable, they’ve put in some fantastic performances.

“One thing for sure with Stevie, he’s very aware the season is long. We were eulogising about them last season and the wheels came off.

“But they’ve put themselves in a great position.

“If I was Stevie I’d be prioritising the league. There are some very good teams in the Europa League and I can’t see them winning that.”

Real depth in squad

Playing on Thursdays and Sundays is gruelling but Rangers have real depth in their squad this season.

Rangers beat Hamilton 8-0 with Allan McGregor, Filip Helander, Glen Kamara, Ianis Hagi, Cedric Itten, Bongani Zungu and Alfredo Morelos on the bench.

That’s pretty incredible.

How long can the unbeaten record go on? Well, Rangers have played their hardest games in the group stage of the Europa.

They should easily make the knockouts and it would be extremely hard for Gerrard not to take the competition seriously then.

Murphy makes a point, though. The Premiership is the most important thing for Rangers this season and Gerrard has to put out the team he thinks can get the job done there.

However, we think he’s got the players to juggle around both competitions.
