‘Tremendous’ – James Tavernier hails Rangers board & staff for significant change

Rangers defender James Tavernier has hailed the board and Steven Gerrard for their work strengthening the squad over the summer.

The Bears skipper was speaking after his side destroyed Hamilton 8-0 at Ibrox on Sunday, despite making five changes.

Bongani Zungu made his debut for the club, and a number of signings contributed, including Kemar Roofe with his two goals.

Tavernier claimed that the work completed by the club has been “tremendous” and they are reaping the benefits on the pitch.

“Praise the gaffer, the management team and the club,” he told Rangers TV.

“How they’ve dealt with the transfer window and the improvement of the squad, the depth of the squad, how strong it is.

“You can see today, the boys in the starting line-up getting a chance and even at half-time with Zungu and Brandon coming on – it’s tremendous.”

Rangers have been better in every single department this season.

Their defence has set the example for their attacking players, and today they were at their best by scoring eight with ease at Ibrox.

Looking at the summer business, there was a clear intent to improve in the final third, bringing in Roofe and Cedric Itten – something which has taken so much pressure off Alfredo Morelos.

Leon Balogun and Jon McLaughlin were the defensive reinforcements and both have made an impact. The introduction of that duo proved they can come in whenever needed and the performance levels don’t drop – keeping another clean-sheet.

Filip Helander has been destroyed in the past week, and last season Gerrard wouldn’t have had the option of replacing him, which is the best example that the squad depth has been improved massively.
