‘Sensational’ – Neil McCann & Alex Rae blown away by one Rangers player in rout v Hamilton

Alex Rae and Neil McCann were in awe of Kemar Roofe’s touch before he assisted Joe Aribo’s second goal for Rangers in their 8-0 win over Hamilton on Sunday.

Steven Gerrard’s side thoroughly dismantled Accies at Ibrox this weekend and Roofe was arguably a contender for the man of the match award with two goals and an assist.

And it was that assist in the first half that really had Rae and McCann talking at half-time.

“The first touch is sensational. Look at this. And then the lay-back,” said Rae told RangersTV on Sunday [03:51pm].

“[Aribo] does get a bit fortunate here but he pulls the trigger and that’s what I quite like about it. I’m always encouraging players to shoot in and around the penalty box.

“Sometimes we’ve seen Rangers over-cooking it. They maybe look for a short-pass and a give and go.”

McCann then gave his thoughts on Roofe’s touch in the build-up to Aribo’s second by saying: “Listen, that is absolutely brilliant.

“He’s almost caught it with his toe just to kill it and bring it back.

“And then his second touch is a nice little lay back in.”

We’re glad that Roofe put in a good performance because the ex-Leeds man wasn’t at his best in his last outing against Lech Poznan.

After that narrow 1-0 win over the Polish side in the Europa League, Roofe was dropped to the bench and was an unused substitute against Kilmarnock and Benfica.

Since joining the Light Blues from Anderlecht in the summer, Roofe’s life at Ibrox has been a bit stop-start due to an injury, Gerrard’s rotation and the international breaks.

Even though he’s started this weekend against Hamilton and got involved in the goals, there’s a two-week break before the next fixture and by the time that comes around, Gerrard may have switched up his squad again.

We’ll see how it goes over the international break because players seem more likely to test positive for COVID-19, suffer injuries or become jet-lagged.
