‘MOTM’ – Some Rangers fans amazed by ‘best player in Scotland’ after 8-0 win v Hamilton
Rangers fans have been drooling over James Tavernier’s performance in the 8-0 hammering of Hamilton Academical at Ibrox on Sunday.
Kemar Roofe, Joe Aribo and Tavernier all scored twice each in the Scottish Premiership win with Scott Arfield and Brandon Barker also netting in the rout.
Tavernier, who scored once from a penalty and once from open play, also assisted Roofe’s opening goal and supplied a steady stream of dangerous crosses into the Hamilton penalty area throughout the 90 minutes.
It was a true masterclass by the former Newcastle defender, who now has an astonishing 12 goals in all competitions this season.
Tavernier now leads BBC Sport’s top goalscorer standings but he has netted the same number of times in the Scottish Premiership [8] as Aberdeen’s Lewis Ferguson.
During and after the game, Rangers fans were on Twitter waxing lyrical about Tavernier’s display.
One claimed that the 29-year-old was the man of the match while another dubbed him as the “best player in Scotland” right now.
Here is a selection of their tweets:
It’s hard to disagree with that last tweet.
Tavernier is playing every week in the Scottish Premiership, captaining his team, helping keep clean sheets as a defender and causing havoc as an attacker, scoring goals and supplying assists for fun.
Tavernier’s a class-act and someone who Gerrard has really managed to get the best out of during his time in charge at Ibrox.
We hope Tavernier’s able to continue his form after the international break and into the festive period, because that is when seasons are won and lost.
Rangers have a huge chance to win the Scottish Premiership title this season and Tavernier is going to be key to that happening.
In other Rangers news, Alex Rae and Neil McCann were raving about this one player.
