Many Rangers fans react to Bongani Zungu performance as debutant plays in 8-0 v Hamilton

Bongani Zungu was handed his long-awaited Rangers debut on Sunday as the Light Blues demolished Hamilton Academical at Ibrox.

Zungu, 28, came off the bench at half-time to replace Ryan Jack and did a brilliant job to impress those who managed to tune into the Scottish Premiership fixture on Rangers TV.

Rangers signed Zungu on a loan-to-buy basis from Amiens on transfer deadline day over a month ago but he had not been used by Steven Gerrard before the Accies game due to undergoing a period in self-isolation.

We admit that it was a straightforward game for Zungu to get his debut in because Rangers absolutely destroyed Hamilton in Govan this weekend.

The South Africa midfielder, who we’ll be keeping a close eye on over the international break, never really had to break a sweat but he looked calm and composed on the ball, barely doing anything wrong in Gerrard’s midfield.

And fans on Twitter were more than pleased with what they saw from the new signing.

Here is a selection of their tweets:

While we’re not going to agree with comparisons to Gerrard and Barcelona legend Xavi, it’s nice to finally see Zungu get some game-time for Rangers.

Due to the 2019/20 season being called off early in France last season, Zungu hasn’t played a lot of football this year.

He played just twice for Amiens in Ligue 2 this season before moving to Ibrox and before that had gone months without kicking a ball in anger.

That, added with his quarantine, has made it difficult for him to get settled in but thankfully, his career as a Rangers player is now officially underway with that solid second-half display versus Hamilton.

In other Rangers news, fans are in a meltdown over a tweet by one of the club’s sponsors.
