‘Love to see’ – Steven Gerrard claims Rangers ace ‘played angry’ in 8-0 win v Accies
Rangers were sensational on Sunday afternoon as they destroyed Hamilton 8-0 at Ibrox to extend their lead at the top.
The goals were shared too, with Kemar Roofe, Joe Aribo and James Tavernier all scoring a couple as the Bears bounced back in the perfect manner from the draw with Benfica.
Steven Gerrard made five changes to his side, bringing in the likes of Roofe and Jermain Defoe and resting important players such as Alfredo Morelos.
Gerrard was particularly impressed with Roofe, claiming he was “angry” after missing out on minutes in that draw against Benfica on Thursday.
“We’ve got people getting back up to speed,” he told Rangers TV.
“Kemar Roofe, today he played angry, probably because he never got on the pitch through the week which I love to see because you see the best Roofe.
“He’s getting close to being at his best.”
Roofe has had a frustrating start to life at Ibrox since moving from Anderlecht.
The former Leeds man has been plagued with injuries throughout his career and suffered one in the opening few weeks here in Scotland.
He then bounced back with that wonder-goal against Standard Liege but has found it hard to cement a spot in the final third for the Bears.
Roofe finally got his start against the Accies, and he took full advantage of that, destroying them from the first whistle to the last – not only with his two goals.
The 27-year-old also delivered an assist, and got a perfect 10 WhoScored match rating, certainly staking his claim for a starting spot once again after the international break.
