Davie Provan makes extraordinary claim about Rangers fans

Former Celtic man Davie Provan has claimed that Rangers fans care more about their club winning the title than the health of the general public.

Provan, speaking in The Scottish Sun, declared that Gers fans should forgive Jordan Jones and George Edmundson for breaking COVID regulations to attend a party after the pair were suspended by their club last week.

He went on to say that there wouldn’t be any Rangers fans ‘demanding P45’s’ if it was Alfredo Morelos or Ryan Kent who had been caught out.

Provan said: “Would they be demanding P45s if Ryan Kent and Alfredo Morelos were caught having a good time? No chance. They’re more worried about ten in a row than public health.

“Is anyone surprised players are breaking Covid guidelines? It’s a miracle most of them have stuck to the restrictions. Throughout the pandemic, footballers have been judged differently from Joe Bloggs.

“For the most part, they’ve complied brilliantly with the Covid rules. Some had their wages slashed but still found time to deliver food to their local community. Most have been a credit to themselves and their clubs. They’re due some slack.”

These claims from Provan are absolutely absurd. Of course, there is a large expectation and desire among the Rangers fanbase that this year will be the year their club snatch the title back from their bitter rivals.

But in the world we currently live in, where anyone could be struck down by the coronavirus, it is quite the assertion that the Gers faithful would be happy to see their side win the Scottish Premiership at the expense of the public’s health.

Yes, Jones and Edmundson are largely bit-part players and if they left Ibrox we’re sure that Steven Gerrard would manage. But, if Kent, Morelos or any other first-team regular was as stupid and reckless and Jones and Edmundson the Gers fanbase would react in the same way.

Some Gers fans called for the suspended pair to be sacked by their club but Gerrard has hinted that they will remain at Ibrox.

In other Rangers news, Alex McLeish claims this 23-year-old is exactly what Rangers need.
