Rangers midfielder suffers knock v Benfica, Gerrard shares chances of Hamilton return
Steven Gerrard has confirmed that Rangers midfielder Scott Arfield has suffered a knock against Benfica on Thursday evening.
The Bears mainstay featured off the bench in Portugal and completed the final 21 minutes – playing a part in Benfica’s last-gasp equaliser.
Benfica somehow managed to draw 3-3 despite being two goals behind with 10 men, and Arfield’s poor pass was capitalised on during injury time.
Gerrard admitted that the midfielder was suffering from a small knock, presumably picked up after coming onto the pitch last night.
The Gers boss claimed that they are hopeful on his chances of being available for the game against Hamilton on Sunday afternoon at Ibrox.
“Scott Arfield has a bit of a knock but we hope he his okay, otherwise we have a few bumps and bruises but that is all,” he said.
The reacts to this news from some fans proves that Arfield isn’t the most popular of players in Glasgow this morning.
Arfield is full of experience and will be hurting about his role in the equaliser, but he will bounce back and prove himself once again.
The 32-year-old has been superb in the league this season, and looking back only one week brings back his shining display against Kilmarnock.
Arfield made seven interceptions and made nine recoveries in the opposing half according to WyScout – proving he is made for the tough occasions.
We don’t expect him to start against Hamilton given this recent knock, but if the Accies prove to be tough opposition, Arfield could certainly help off the bench if needed.
