Ian Durrant mentions Paul Gascoigne in bold Rangers midfield comparison

Ian Durrant has compared the current Rangers midfield to the famous ’90s four which included the likes of Paul Gascoigne.

The Rangers legend believes that the likes of Glen Kamara would have fitted in easily to that side after an impressive start to the season.

There were also mentions for Scott Arfield, Ryan Jack and Steven Davis, who continue to shine in this unbeaten run.

Speaking for the matchday programme for the Hamilton clash on Sunday, Durrant was clearly impressed with the midfield in Glasgow.

“You had myself and Paul Gascoigne – would Scott Arfield and Glen Kamara look out of place next to us? I don’t think so at all,” he said.

It definitely is a bold claim to make, but Steven Gerrard has certainly put together a midfield that has it all during his time at Ibrox.

Durrant was referencing a midfield that had flair, but also players that weren’t afraid to get stuck in and make a difference off the ball.

Looking at this current midfield, the likes of Jack and Davis have that experience, and the ability to get stuck in, whereas Kamara and Arfield can get forward and make a difference in the final third.

Kamara deserves a special mention, and will most likely be the nearest example to Gascoigne.

The Finland international proved it once again with his goal against Benfica last night, staying composed and curling a great finish into the bottom corner from distance.

The midfielder continues to prove his £50,000 transfer fee could be the bargain of the decade, we can’t think of any deal better than this one – Durrant clearly approves.
