‘This could be the end’ – Charlie Adam names one Rangers player whose Ibrox career may be over

Charlie Adam believes Jordan Jones’ time at Rangers has come to an end but feels George Edmundson might be handed a reprieve after the pair recently broke COVID-19 rules.

Jones, 26, and Edmundson, 23, were caught by police at an indoor gathering in the early hours of Monday morning and have both since gone into self-isolation and have had their Ibrox futures called into question.

Steven Gerrard was quoted by the Scottish Sun as saying he is “really disappointed” by the two players’ actions, adding “let themselves and their families down”.

Neither Jones nor Edmundson are key players at Ibrox but ex-Rangers midfielder Adam believes there will be different outcomes for the duo.

Speaking on PLZ Soccer’s Football Show, Adam said: “I think this could be the end for Jones.

“I think Edmundson might be given a little bit of leeway because he’s a young lad who’s still learning.

“But with what happened with Jones in the Old Firm game and certain situations as well, I think this could be the end.

“But Stevie’s given [Alfredo] Morelos a number of opportunities after red cards and every different indiscipline so they’ll get the book thrown at them by the club.

“The board will try to fine them four-weeks’ wages, I think that’s the maximum they can get. They’ll have to isolate for two weeks and then they’ll have to stand in front of their team-mates.”

We can see why Adam would say this but why should the two players be handed different punishments for the same crime?

Jones and Edmundson are equally down the pecking order at Ibrox with Jones appearing four times in all competitions this season and Edmundson appearing twice.

Neither are in Gerrard’s Europa League squad either and both play in positions where there is plenty of strength in depth.

Adam claims that Edmundson might be treated a little less harsh than Jones because of his age but the defender is still 23-years-old and he should know better.

At the age of 23, he should know how to be a professional and also know right from wrong.

And if he was that great at the age of 23, he would be playing in the first-team a lot more than he is.

We wouldn’t be shocked or disappointed if both players were sold at the first available opportunity in January.
