‘Rotten’, ‘Disaster’, ‘Car crash’ – Many Rangers fans destroy one player at HT v Benfica

Rangers fans have blasted defender Filip Helander for his performance in the first-half of the Europa League clash with Benfica on Thursday night.

Connor Goldson’s own-goal gave the Portuguese side an early lead at Estadio da Luz but Helander did his defensive team-mate no favours by panicking in the penalty area, leading to the ball cannoning off Goldson and into the net.

Fortunately for the Sweden international, Nicolas Otamendi managed to make a bigger blunder at the other end of the pitch by getting sent off.

Otamendi’s red led to Rangers racing into the lead through a Diogo Goncalves own goal and an effort from outside the penalty area by Glen Kamara.

But Helander’s shocker was still on the lips of Rangers fans throughout the first half with many more shocked by the usually-solid defender’s mishap.

One supporter even claimed that the Swede was doing an impression of Celtic flop Shane Duffy.

Rangers have 45 minutes to secure a massive win in the Europa League.

If the Gers win this you would say they are massive favourites to win their group and qualify for the knock-out stages.

After the international break, the Gers welcome Benfica to Ibrox before playing Lech Poznan away and Standard Liege at home.

Win this and avoid defeat in the home game against Benfica and that should be enough, you’d imagine.

In other Rangers news, Charlie Adam claims this player’s career is over at Ibrox.
