‘It might be £50m’ – Exclusive: McLeish makes big Rangers transfer claim
We’re delighted to welcome former Rangers manager Alex McLeish as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Ibrox…
Alex McLeish has said that he can’t see Alfredo Morelos being sold “at any price” in January but that Rangers could look at the situation again in the summer.
He was talking after Rangers sporting director Ross Wilson revealed that the club had an agreement with Morelos that he would be sold if the right offer came in.
That didn’t happen over the summer window and McLeish claims that it left Morelos “a wee bit down”.
McLeish also said that no one knows what the figure is that Rangers would have accepted and said, “it could be £50m”.
Talking exclusively to Ibrox News McLeish said, “I would feel that Steven Gerrard would be privy to those discussions with Morelos.
“He would be imploring the directors that he wants to keep hold of him.
“As for the agreement, we don’t know the details. You never know what the price is that they would have accepted, it might be £50m.
“It’s important to keep Morelos happy because it looked like he was a wee bit down on himself in some of the games because he didn’t get the move to the Premier League or abroad.
“But he’s certainly doing some good stuff right now and he’s adding to the strength of the team by knuckling down and getting on with stuff.
“I would think that Rangers wouldn’t want to sell him for any price in January and that they might say that they’ll look at it again next summer.
“Gerrard will be loathed to lose Morelos midway through a season, especially with Rangers doing so well. The January window is always a bit of a negative for me.”
