Chris Sutton blown away by ‘Excellent’ moment in Rangers draw v Benfica
It was a rollercoaster clash between Rangers and Benfica in the Europa League on Thursday evening.
After only a single minute, the Gers were behind in Portugal thanks to an unlucky own-goal by defender Conor Goldson.
Benfica had never lost at home in the Europa League before tonight, so it was a nightmare start for the Gers.
After an own goal of their own and a red card, Benfica were behind minutes later after Glen Kamara beautifully stroked the ball home.
Alfredo Morelos was played down the right before a great switch of play gave the Finnish international all the room he needed to find the bottom corner from distance.
Surprisingly, Chris Sutton was one of the first to react on Twitter, as he finally starts to acknowledge and hand Rangers the credit they deserve.
“Excellent team goal, this,” he wrote.
It was an excellent team goal, and it was nothing less than Kamara deserved for his incredible start to the season.
The 25-year-old continues to makes his £50,000 transfer look even more like a bigger bargain as each game passes.
This is just the latest example of his skill.
No one has a better success rate than Kamara in the Gers squad this season according to WhoScored, a great stat when you consider he has the third-highest average of total passes.
Kamara is usually known for his superb work when holding in midfield, keeping the workload of his defence light, but this was an excellent example of what he can do going forward.
If the midfielder can add this level of attacking skill to his game every week, then his price-tag is only going to continue to rise.
It wasn’t meant to be in the end though, with the Gers conceding a last-minute equaliser to draw 3-3 with the Portuguese giants.
