Charlie Adam and Tam McManus predict score for Rangers clash v Benfica
Charlie Adam predicts Rangers will earn a point away at Benfica on Thursday night but ex-Hibs striker Tam McManus has backed the Portuguese side to win at Estadio da Luz.
Rangers have won all of their last nine matches across all competitions and sit joint-top of their Europa League group with Benfica, who’ve also had a 100 per cent start in Europe.
However, both Adam and McManus believe Steven Gerrard’s men will see their winning streak to come an end in Lisbon.
Speaking on PLZ Soccer’s Football Show on YouTube, McManus said: “I think it’ll be a narrow defeat for Rangers. I’m going to go with 2-1 to Benfica.
When asked for his prediction, ex-Gers midfielder Adam replied: “I’m going to go with 1-1. I think Rangers will get a draw.”
We will take a point but even a narrow defeat won’t be the worst result in the world because you’d imagine Rangers and Benfica will be the top two teams in this group once all the matches are played.
Standard Liege and Lech Poznan play each other on Thursday so if that ends in a draw it will be a huge boost to both the Gers and Benfica.
Obviously, we want Gerrard’s side to win on the night but if they’re going to lose a match any time soon it might as well be this one.
And if we were to try and turn a negative into a positive, a loss could be something that sparks some life into this side again after a couple of average displays against Lech Poznan and Kilmarnock over the last week.
In other Rangers news, Adam believes this player’s career at Ibrox is over.
