‘I can’t understand it’ – Kris Boyd tips Rangers to bomb forward out in January

Kris Boyd claims Rangers will bomb out forward Jordan Jones and defender George Edmundson when the transfer window re-opens in January.

On Monday, Rangers confirmed that Jones, 26, and Edmundson, 23, have been suspended “pending an investigation” after being caught attended a “private gathering with others outside of their household” in the early hours of Monday.

Police had to break up the gathering as it broke COVID-19 regulations and the two players’ futures at Ibrox have now been called into question.

Former Rangers striker Boyd has hit out at the lack of professionalism shown by two of Steven Gerrard’s fringe players and wouldn’t be shocked if they are moved on in the winter transfer window.

“Maybe Rangers will go easy. Maybe they’ll wrap their knuckles and fine them a few weeks’ wages for stepping out of line,” Boyd wrote on the Scottish Sun website.

“But if you’re asking me if there is any way back for them, then I have to say I can’t see it.

“In my opinion, we won’t see them in a light blue jersey again. Chances are, they will be shipped out as soon as the transfer window opens.

“It’s an issue of trust. And I suspect Steven Gerrard will take a dim view of two players who weren’t thinking about the team when they decided it was time to party.”

Rangers

Rangers are not the first club to have their players break coronavirus rules and regulations.

While Boyd doesn’t think what Jones and Edmundson did was as serious as incidents at Celtic and Aberdeen, he still cannot understand what was going through their heads.

“Let’s get it right — this isn’t in the same ballpark as the controversial incidents at Celtic and Aberdeen earlier this season,” Boyd added.

“Eight lads at Pittodrie went out on the town, while Boli Bolingoli jumped on a plane and flew off to Spain for a break, for crying out loud.

“Jones and Edmundson aren’t as bad as that lot. But they still let their manager, team-mates and club down on Sunday night.

“They showed a real lack of professionalism and for the life of me I can’t understand it.”

Rangers don’t have much choice here, do they? But if it wasn’t Jones and Edmundson who did it, and was two more important players in Gerrard’s squad, would there be cries for them to be sold?

If it was Allan McGregor or James Tavernier or Glen Kamara or Ryan Kent, would Boyd be tipping the Gers to sell them in January?

We don’t think so. But that’s not to say he’s not right.

Jones and Edmundson are expendable members of Rangers’ squad based on the fact they have barely played this season.

If their first-team status is already potentially on tenterhooks, them doing this is only going to bump them further out of Gerrard’s favour to the point they are not wanted or needed at all.

Rangers might not have issues in finding buyers from Jones and Edmundson, but they might not be able to demand as much money they would have been able to in the summer.

In other Rangers news, four changes are predicted for the clash with Benfica on Thursday.
