‘90%’ – Benfica boss shares Rangers prediction ahead of EL showdown
Benfica boss Jorge Jesus is 90 per cent sure that Rangers will qualify from their Europa League group.
Rangers have won their two opening group games as they beat Standard Liege and Lech Poznan 2-0 and 1-0 respectively.
As quoted by The Daily Record, the 66-year-old claimed that he thinks that his side and Rangers are almost certain to qualify for the knockout rounds of the competition.
He said, “We are playing a very good side who have two wins in the group, like us. I think there is a 90 per cent chance we will both qualify from the group.”
While Rangers and Benfica are arguably favourites to qualify from Group D, it is bold of Jesus to claim he is 90% sure of qualification with four group games still to play.
If the Gers take all three points against the Portuguese giants then the group really opens up, especially if there is a winner between Poznan and Liege when they play each other.
It will be an interesting 90 minutes when Steven Gerrard’s side face off against the team who currently sit second in the Primeira Liga when on Thursday.
Benfica were top of the league until this weekend, when their 100% start to the season was ended by Boavista who sit just two points away from the relegation places in the Portuguese top flight.
That result will come as a boost to Gers fans who are worried about facing such a strong side at home. However, Benfica may see the game aginst Rangers as a chance to right their poor result at the weekend so Gerrard’s side could face a team with something to prove.
