Ibrox View – Stats v Killie make for grim reading as Rangers ace disappoints

Plenty of Rangers fans blasted Ryan Kent’s performance against Kilmarnock on Sunday despite the Gers winning 1-0 at Rugby Park.

Gers fans faced an anxious end to the game as their side took a slender lead into the closing stages while Killie piled on the pressure.

This pressure could’ve been avoided if Kent had scored a gilt-edged chance to double the Light Blues’ lead and put the game to bed.

Kent’s afternoon didn’t improve after that missed chance early in the second half as he struggled to hold onto the ball or find any of his teammates with his passes.

The stats also make for grim reading.

Only 53% of the 23-year-old’s total actions were successful against Kilmarnock, as per (Wyscout), meaning it was essentially a 50/50 chance that he would do something right.

Kent disappointed on an attacking front as he only managed a successful dribble rate of 67% and the Englishman only won 30% of his offensive duels.

He also didn’t contribute defensively as his side tried to resist the unrelenting Killie attack late in the game. Kent won none of his four aerial duels and none of his loose ball duels.

While defending isn’t Kent’s priority, he needs to do more when the Gers are under pressure, especially if he isn’t contributing in front of the opposition goal.

A stat that does look good for Kent is his successful crossing stat. 100% of his crosses were successful. But Kent only attempted one cross, which somewhat diminishes the quality of the statistic.

Any Gers fans who watched the game will tell you how poor Kent was and that glorious chance to score could have cost Rangers if Kilmarnock had found an equaliser. He needs to recover his form quickly before it starts impacting his side’s results.

In other Rangers news, Jorge Jesus’ Rangers request has been blocked by the Portuguese government.
