‘Going to suffer’ – Jim White & Simon Jordan react to major breaking Rangers news
Rangers players George Edmundson and Jordan Jones have been suspended for breaking Covid rules after attending a party on Sunday night.
They will now have to self-isolate for 14 days and an internal investigation is set to take place.
Talking about the breaking news on talkSPORT (Monday, 11.30am), Jim White said, “Rangers have been made aware that two of their players broached Covid-19 regulations. They have been suspended and will self isolate for 14 days.
“Yet again, it’s another example that the Covid rules seem to be going over the heads of players.”
Simon Jordan responded saying that footballers aren’t unique here.
“Yes, but it’s also going over the heads of a lot of young people generally.
“However, you would have thought that this message would be clearly understood by footballers. But they’re the ones who are going to suffer.”
Rank stupidity
You can try and wrap this up in a different way if you want but the majority of Rangers fans will be left seething by this.
It’s just rank stupidity and selfishness, and both players have let the club down severely.
Hopefully, there will be internal discipline as well for the two players.
Being young doesn’t give you an excuse to let the club down, especially at such an important part of the season.
And both players will be very aware of what happened last season when Gers’ title hopes were taken from their hands and the trophy awarded to Celtic.
Football players know the rules. They will have had them drummed into them over and over again.
The statement from Rangers made this very clear. “The Chairman Douglas Park, Ross Wilson, Steven Gerrard and I discussed this matter as soon as it was brought to our attention,” said Stewart Robertson, Rangers Managing Director.
“We are completely aligned in our action and the standards that are being set at Rangers.
“We will not tolerate behaviour that does not follow those standards and it is totally unacceptable for any of our players to be involved in anything that puts at risk the excellent protocols that have been put in place at Rangers.”
It’s a shame that something like this has to take centre stage just as the players on the pitch are performing out of their skins.
