Exclusive: McLeish reacts to ‘big blow’ for Steven Gerrard and Rangers
We’re delighted to welcome former Rangers manager Alex McLeish as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Ibrox…
Alex McLeish has said that the suspension of Jordan Jones and George Edmundson is a “big blow” to Steven Gerrard.
The two players were found guilty of breaking Covid-19 rules after attending a party in Glasgow.
They have been suspended pending an investigation and will now have to self isolate for 14 days. The club criticised the two players in a statement on Monday.
McLeish said it was typical of a lot of young people’s views and that the attitude had to change.
Talking exclusively to Ibrox News Mcleish said, “I don’t know the full details but that’s a big blow for Stevie, especially with Jordan Jones who was coming back onto the scene a bit.
“He looked as if he was finally adding something to the squad so this is going to be a big setback for him and for Rangers.
“It’s a real shame. It’s difficult for young people these days to understand the impact of their actions.
“There are a lot of people walking about saying ‘I don’t get it’ and that’s an attitude that’s just got to change.”
The majority of Rangers fans are, understandably, fuming about the incident, which happened after the club moved nine points clear at the top of the Premiership.
The only good thing is that the incident was discovered before the players could take part in training, which could have compromised even more of the Rangers squad.
