‘Great professional’ – James Tavernier awestruck by rarely-seen Rangers ace in win v Killie
Rangers captain James Tavernier has heaped massive praise on Cedric Itten after he started the 1-0 win against Kilmarnock.
The Swiss forward has seen his starting opportunities limited at Ibrox and was given his chance at Rugby Park against a physical Killie side.
Tavernier got the winner, but he claimed that Itten was brilliant after watching his other teammates steal the headlines in recent weeks.
The Bears skipper shared that the forward has been out on the training pitches proving himself, and did the same when it counted on Sunday.
“Cedric, did a brilliant job for us today,” he told Rangers TV.
“He’s been on the sidelines watching Kemar get the headlines, Alfredo get the headlines and credit to himself, he’s a great professional.
“He’s been working really hard on the training pitch, and he’s been asked to come into the team today and he’s done himself proud.”
Steven Gerrard agreed with his skipper after the game, claiming Rangers fans will be raring to see their striker in action again after today’s display.
The 23-year-old had four shots on goal as well as winning two of his aerial duels according to WhoScored, as his physical abilities were tested all afternoon.
It was Itten’s first start after four substitute appearances, and we don’t think it will be so long until his next start based on this performance.
Gerrard has four forward options available to him, and this was another display that proved his rotation is clearly working at Ibrox.
