‘We had an agreement’ – Ross Wilson makes Morelos transfer claim
Rangers Sporting Director Ross Wilson has explained why Alfredo Morelos wasn’t sold this summer despite interest from numerous clubs.
Reports this summer claimed French side Lille had a £16.5 million bid rejected for the Colombian striker and Wilson has now explained why the bid was turned down.
Speaking to Rangers TV (Via The Daily Record), Wilson admitted that Morelos and Rangers had an agreement in which the 24-year-old would be allowed to leave Ibrox if any club met the valuation the Gers had placed on their star man.
He said, “Alfredo is slightly different. Again a lot of noise. Not a lot of it right I have to say. We had interest in Alfredo and we had an agreement that if there was a club that met a valuation that we had in mind then we would look at that.
“That valuation wasn’t met and we rejected some offers for him because they didn’t meet that valuation and he remains with us going forward and we will see what the future holds for him”.
Wilson’s words seem to confirm that Morelos was open to leaving Rangers this summer and this perhaps explains why the Colombian hasn’t been playing to his usual high standard this season.
Before his goal against Lech Poznan on Thursday Morelos had gone eight games without a goal and didn’t look his usual sharp, aggressive self. He was dropped to the bench for the Europa League tie and most Gers fans would agree that it was deserved.
Perhaps his head was turned in the summer and he now wants to be playing his football elsewhere. It would explain why the 24-year-old hasn’t looked as passionate this season and why he only has three Scottish Premiership goals to his name.
In the grand scheme of things, the January transfer window isn’t too far away and rumours about Morelos’ future will no doubt start to appear the closer we get to the start of 2021. If the Colombian has his heart set on a move away from Ibrox we may not see the forward in a Rangers shirt many more times.
In other Rangers news, Kris Boyd has explained why Gers fans should be happy if Celtic win in the Scottish Cup this weekend.
