Steven Gerrard ‘delighted’ after failed Leeds bid for star player

Rangers manager Steven Gerrard said that he is happy that there is less “noise” around Ryan Kent’s future now that the transfer window has closed.

The former Liverpool winger has impressed so far this season, but was linked with a move away from the club over the summer.

Leeds United had a bid rejected for the 23-year-old, and Kent has continued to play well helping Rangers to make an unbeaten start to the Scottish Premiership season.

Speaking this week, Gerrard was full of praise for the winger, claiming he was in a rich “vein of form”.

“He’s playing a lot of games at the moment and I need to try and look after him, to make sure we can keep him in this vein of form,” said Gerrard (via The Herald).

“We’re delighted with him here and he’s happy and settled. We’re away from the noise that was around him a few weeks back and we’re looking forward to working with him here for a long time.”

Rangers

Crucial cog

Kent has grown into one of the most important pieces in this Rangers team under Gerrard and the club will be desperate for him to stay beyond this season.

In 12 Scottish Premiership appearances so far this season, he has scored four goals and provided one assist, as well as attempting three shots per match (via WhoScored).

Only James Tavernier has scored more goals than him in the league this season, and with Kemar Roofe, Alfredo Morelos and Jermain Defoe battling over the number nine jersey, it is likely that plenty of the goalscoring burden will fall on his shoulders.

However, as Gerrard noted, Kent has played 986 minutes in the league already this season and it is vital the club help him avoid burnout.
