‘When I was in Ibrox’ – Exclusive: McLeish reveals why this season will be different for Rangers
We’re delighted to welcome former Rangers manager Alex McLeish as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Ibrox…
Alex McLeish has praised the transfer business that Rangers have done over the summer and said he’s got a feeling that this is going to be Steven Gerrard’s first title-winning season.
He said this summer was crucial as despite Celtic winning what he called a “damaged title” because of the Covid-19 curtailment, the fact is that Rangers were playing catch-up.
Rangers spent a lot bringing in players such as Cedric Itten and Kemar Roofe, and it seems to be paying dividends, with the Gers flying with a six-point lead at the top of the Premiership.
Talking exclusively to Ibrox News Mcleish said, “Rangers had to do more business this summer to improve things because they were still playing catch-up.
“The title was a bit damaged because of the way things turned out with Covid-19 but you’ve got to live with that.
“Celtic had got themselves a lead before things were halted and that was a surprise after Rangers got that win at Celtic Park in December.
“So, that told Steven and the backroom staff that they needed to improve, and they’ve done a really good job.
“When I was in Ibrox we knew how we felt when we were winning titles. We knew it was going to go right to the wire but we could feel the momentum.
“I think this could go right to the wire, too, but I just feel that this is Rangers’ season.”
If ever there was a season to halt Celtic’s run, this is it.
Celtic might not be playing for 10-in-a-row as far as Rangers fans are concerned but it would still be good to officially put paid to the nonsense.
In other news, Rangers must go all-out to sign game-changing box-to-box mid earning just £4k/wk
