Sky Sports: Kilmarnock senior player ruled out of clash v Rangers
Kilmarnock will be without defender Clevid Dikamona when they take on Scottish Premiership leaders Rangers at Rugby Park on Sunday, according to Sky Sports Scotland.
Dikamona, 30, was stretchered off Killie’s plastic pitch in their 1-0 defeat at home against Hibernian last week.
Sky Sports Scotland reports via their official Twitter account that while the Congo international’s injury isn’t as serious as first thought, he’s still suffered ligament damage and won’t be able to play against Rangers this weekend.
Dikamona joined Kilmarnock in the summer after he negotiated his release from Hearts in March while the season was suspended due to COVID-19.
However, the former Jambos man hasn’t had the easiest starts to life at Rugby Park by playing just four times in all competitions since his arrival.
And in his fourth appearance last weekend, the defender’s game was cut short early due to that foot injury.
Rangers shouldn’t be too concerned.
While the Gers don’t have the best of records on Kilmarnock’s artificial surface at Rugby Park, Steven Gerrard’s side are in brilliant form and Dikamona’s injury shouldn’t have too much impact on Gerrard’s plans.
Alfredo Morelos got himself back to goalscoring ways with a superb header to win the match against Lech Poznan on Thursday night while Jermain Defoe and Kemar Roofe also scored amazing goals last week.
Ryan Kent has gone a bit quiet lately while Ianis Hagi is still blowing hot and cold whenever he plays.
But Rangers’ biggest threat is coming from the full-backs James Tavernier and Borna Barisic, who are assisting goals for fun at the moment.
Dikamona would have been handy in helping Kilmarnock’s defence deal with the bombardment of crosses and passes from out wide but the Ayrshire club will have to make do without the Congolese colossus this weekend.
In other Rangers news, Ally McCoist slammed this Gers player for two incidents in the win over Lech Poznan.
