Rangers early team news v Kilmarnock: Ibrox senior duo doubts for Rugby Park showdown
Steven Gerrard has confirmed that Ryan Jack and Alfredo Morelos are doubts for his Rangers’ trip to Kilmarnock this weekend.
Both Jack, 28, and Morelos, 24, came off the bench in the latter stages of the 1-0 win against Lech Poznan on Thursday night with Morelos managing to score the decisive goal.
However, although both of them had limited time on the pitch in the Europa League clash at Ibrox, both suffered knocks that leave their availability under threat for the away showdown at Rugby Park on Sunday.
Speaking on Friday morning, as quoted by Rangers’ official Twitter account, Gerrard said: “Alfredo took a kick and also Ryan Jack, we will take a look this morning but nothing too serious hopefully.
“We have to move on very quickly and focus on a big game at Rugby Park, we will go there and give it our best.”
If both players have only suffered knocks then it’s likely that they won’t be risked for the clash against Kilmarnock on their artificial pitch.
Gerrard has plenty of depth in the central midfield area to cover for Jack’s potential absence and if Morelos doesn’t play then the Gers boss has Kemar Roofe, Cedric Itten and Jermain Defoe to pick from.
Kilmarnock aren’t a bad side so it’s not as though Rangers can hope to rock up in Ayrshire and feel they’re guaranteed to pick up some decent points.
But they should still be able to beat Killie if Morelos and Jack are sidelined.
Jack’s been brilliant for the Light Blues this season and is arguably the best central midfielder that Scotland has to offer.
But Glen Kamara is just as good and Steven Davis and Scott Arfield can also cover for the ex-Aberdeen midfielder.
In other Rangers news, the Gers want to sign this Liverpool-born Premier League player for a cut-price fee.
