‘Neil knows that’ – Alan Brazil makes Rangers claim after Celtic Europa stumble
talkSPORT presenter and Celtic supporter Alan Brazil said that Rangers are favourites for the Scottish Premiership title.
Rangers are six points clear at the top and looking to end a nine-year title drought this season under boss Steven Gerrard.
With both sides playing in the Europa League on Thursday, Rangers beat Lech Poznan 1-0 at Ibrox, while Celtic threw away a two-goal lead to draw 2-2 with Lille in France.
Asked whether he was scared of the threat of Rangers, Brazil admitted that the Gers are now favoured for the title given Celtic’s poor recent form.
“I am worried and Neil knows that,” he said on talkSPORT on Friday (06:53).
“But Celtic can easily put a run together. It is going to be very tight and Rangers are favourites, but Celtic can come back.”
Down to the wire
Rangers have made an impressive start to the season, with 10 wins from their opening 12 league games and just three goals conceded.
The Gers were also dominant in the Old Firm derby earlier this month, laying down an impressive marker to their local rivals.
Rangers have also got maximum points in their Europa League group, while Celtic have just one point from two games.
With a game in hand, Celtic can move back to within three points of them with a win and it is likely to remain close for the rest of the season.
The key concern for Rangers is staying the course and remaining consistent, avoiding the fall off they experienced in the new year last season.
Having Alfredo Morelos on the bench against Lech Poznan was certainly the difference, as he came on to give them a 1-0 win, and Gerrard will hope that this sort of depth can continue to pay off.
There’s no doubt that this is by far the strongest Rangers squad since Gerrard arrived.
