Athletic journalist: Gerrard ‘snapped’ with frustration at display of one Rangers star v Poznan
Rangers kept up their unbeaten record in all competitions with a 1-0 win against Lech Poznan on Thursday night and added another clean sheet to an impressive defensive record.
However, one player in particular frustrated Gerrard after a very inconsistent display for the Gers.
Winger Ianis Hagi was hooked off after 69 minutes and replaced by Joe Aribo and Athletic journalist Jordan Campbell said it was a result of one-too-many misplaced passes.
He claimed Gerrard “snapped” when Hagi gave the ball away shortly after the hour mark.
Writing on The Athletic he said, “Gerrard snapped at one point when Hagi gave the ball away and that’s when he decided [to sub him off].
“Hagi had a typical Hagi performance I felt. Gave the ball away a lot and too slow to release it but he also looked the most likely to create as he just never stops getting on the ball.”
6/10 good enough for Gers
This wasn’t one of the best Rangers’ performances, with only Borna Barisic and Ryan Kent really impressing.
However, if Rangers can win when only delivering a six or seven out of ten, it represents a massive step forward.
We like Hagi as a player, although he can be frustrating, and the pitch definitely didn’t suit his game last night.
However, Gerrard was right to take him off when he did and his switches controlled the game, which was still on a knife-edge at just 1-0.
He took the disappointing Kemar Roofe off early enough and Alfredo Morelos delivered an almost instant response.
With Celtic throwing away a 2-0 lead in their Europa League game, there really is only one team in Scotland at the moment.
