‘Short sighted decision’, ‘Gutted’ – Some Rangers fans react to Ibrox departure
Plenty of Rangers fans have been reacting to the news that the club’s overseas development officer has been made redundant due to the financial impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.
At the club for five years, Gary Crooks announced on Twitter that he was leaving the club and expressed his pride at the work he had done expanding the international programme.
Numerous clubs have been forced to lay staff off this year because of the pandemic, with some even forced into liquidation such are the circumstances.
English side Macclesfield Town were wound up in September, while Arsenal received criticism for laying off 55 members of staff, claiming it was necessary if they were to make an investment into the transfer market.
Crooks thanked Rangers for providing him with the opportunity, but plenty of fans were disappointed to hear the news that such a valued member of staff had lost his position.
Covid-19 is having an impact on and off the pitch this season.
Arsenal were rightly criticised for their mass redundancies and it’s disappointing to see that Crooks is the latest victim.
It’s tough to see footballers getting paid so much while staff are laid off but it’s never as clear-cut and easy to see things this way.
We wish Crooks all the best in the future.
Here are some of the best reaction from Twitter.
