‘Phenomenal’ – Alan Hutton awestruck by ‘Incredible’ Rangers ace starting v Poznan
Alan Hutton has been blown away by Rangers defender James Tavernier this season in all competitions.
The former Bears full-back claimed that the way the skipper has stepped up at Ibrox has been admirable and that all you can do is sit back and applaud him.
Tavernier is captaining the side once again in the Europa League clash with Lech Poznan on Thursday evening and the Gers look for yet another win.
Speaking before the game, Hutton claimed that his efforts in the attacking half have been “phenomenal” in the past few years.
“The way Tav has stepped up has been so impressive and the numbers he is returning are incredible,” he said in the Rangers programme.
“There’s no other way to speak about what he’s doing than to talk him up. For a right-back, his goals are phenomenal.”
No one could argue with Hutton, all you need to do is look at the numbers to back up his stats with ease since he moved to Ibrox.
Captain fantastic
Tavernier will skipper the squad for the game against Poznan, and he was one of the reasons they managed to get there in the end.
In the tough qualifying game against Galatasaray weeks ago, the right-back popped up with a vital goal – a header in the six-yard box, which is also proof he isn’t afraid to get forward.
The 28-year-old has scored nine goals and assisted a further five assists in 2020/21, and it would be hard to find a full-back with better numbers – Andy Robertson and Trent Alexander-Arnold most likely the only two.
