‘It’s not going to be easy’ – Frank Stapleton predicts Rangers v Poznan
Former Manchester United and Arsenal forward Frank Stapleton has predicted a ‘comfortable’ win for Rangers in their Europa League tie with Lech Poznan.
The Gers take on Polish outfit Poznan on Thursday as they look to maintain their unbeaten record in both the league and European competition.
Speaking to Betfred, Stapleton said that the Gers are playing at ‘a really good level’ this season and predicts a ‘comfortable’ win for the Light Blues.
He said, “Last week they won away and when you see a team go on in Europe and winning away from home, it doesn’t matter who you’re playing against you have to go away and have the mentality. They seem to be playing to a really good level at the moment and I think they’ll continue that against Lech Poznan.
“I think that Rangers, on the run they’re on, will continue that and should win comfortably at home. It’s not going to be easy, because teams come and just sit back and look to soak it all up but eventually they’ll make the breakthrough and I expect them to win”.
Rangers will be aware that Poznan may just sit back and try to hit them on the counter-attack but the Gers should have more than enough talent to secure three points against the side who sit 10th in the Polish first division.
The Light Blues were impressive on their last European outing, defeating Standard Liege 2-0 as Kemar Roofe scored a goal of the season contender. The English striker could feature again for Rangers after having another week to continue his recovery from injury.
Gers boss Steven Gerrard faces a selection headache as he has almost a fully fit squad to choose from, the only exception being Nikola Katic who is still recovering from a long-term injury. Joe Aribo and Ryan Jack have recently returned to full fitness and join a host of other midfield options.
Gerrard will have one eye on this weekend’s trip to Kilmarnock as he looks to pull away from Celtic in the title race. Luckily he has the squad strength and depth to be able to field strong enough sides to beat both Poznan and Kilmarnock without having to worry about fitness.
