‘Fantastic’ – Steven Gerrard delighted to have never-before-seen Gers star available
Steven Gerrard has shared his delight to finally have midfielder Bongani Zungu training with the Rangers squad on Wednesday.
The South African international signed from Amiens, and had to initially quarantine for two weeks in Glasgow, which ended today.
Zungu went through the formalities at Ibrox, dealing with the media and conducting his first interview with the Gers since signing.
Gerrard shared his thoughts on having Zungu available, claiming that he completed a one-hour session at the training ground today.
“Very excited to have Bongani Zungu involved, it would have been a long two weeks for him,” he said, as quoted by the Gers Twitter account.
“He trained today which was fantastic. He will certainly feel that one-hour session later today but he is smiling and it was great to have him here.”
Poznan way too early
Although it is great to have Zungu available and training, the Lech Poznan game on Thursday surely comes way too early.
After only an hour of training on Wednesday, it only seems highly unlikely that the trip to Kilmarnock will bring his debut – with Gerrard being cautious as well as excited.
Zungu will most likely have to wait until the tough clash with Benfica next week to be possibly involved with the travelling party.
The South African will need at least a full week of training before making his mark at Ibrox, and he will be working hard in training while the squad prepare for Poznan tomorrow.
