PL club ready to sell Rangers-linked midfielder in January – reports
Sheffield United are reportedly prepared to sell John Lundstam in January following claims that Rangers were interested in the 26-year-old this summer.
In the summer, The Athletic reported that Rangers were monitoring Lundstam’s situation as he negotiated a new contract at Bramall Lane.
Now, The Star are reporting that he has been unable to agree a deal with his current club and the Blades will reluctantly listen to offers for the 26-year-old when the transfer window opens.
The Star also report that while ‘Burnley, Crystal Palace and Rangers were all reportedly monitoring Lundstram’s situation during the last window’, none of those clubs made a ‘concrete offer’.
It seems that if Rangers are still interested in securing the services of Lundstram then they may have some competition from Premier League clubs. Of course, the Gers could always offer a pre-contract deal to the Englishman in a bid to get him on a free in the summer but Sheffield United seem keen to sell in January.
This does mean that Rangers could get their man for cheaper than they would have done in the summer, but do Rangers need another central midfielder?
Rangers already have six centre midfielders at the club in the shapes of Joe Aribo, Ryan Jack, Glen Kamara, Scott Arfield, Steven Davis and Bongani Zungu, who is yet to make his first Gers appearance. Aribo looks to be back to full fitness after scoring in the Gers’ 2-0 win over Livingston at the weekend and Steven Gerrard can report a clean bill of health amongst his other midfielders.
However, there have been reports suggesting that Glen Kamara could leave Ibrox as Gerrard is ‘desperate’ to give him a new contract. Could we see the Gers go for Lundstram if Kamara does indeed seek pastures new?
Of course, injuries can still occur and with the Light Blues’ heavy and congested fixture list this season, it makes sense to have plenty of players available in every position. We think it would be a good deal if Lundstram can be lured to Ibrox for a minimal fee in January as he would provide more back-up and bring more experience to Gerrard’s side.
In other Rangers news, Steven Gerrard has been warned off a Premier League return by a former teammate.
