McManus suggests Celtic sack Lennon as Rangers title claim is made
Former Hibernian striker Tam McManus has suggested that Celtic might have to sack Neil Lennon if they want to swing the title race back in their favour after Rangers went six points clear at the top of the Scottish Premiership table on Sunday.
Rangers continued their unbeaten start to the campaign with a straightforward 2-0 win at home against Livingston just hours after Celtic were held to a 3-3 draw by Aberdeen at Pittodrie.
Celtic are hoping to win their 10th league title in a row this season but based on the way they’ve started, Rangers are set to dash those hopes with McManus claiming that Steven Gerrard’s side is more likely to finish top.
“Rangers are favourites to win the league. I think they’re playing the better football, they look as if they’ve got a strong squad, defensively they’re solid, their manager knows what he wants to play, he doesn’t change his 4-3-3,” said McManus on PLZ Soccer’s Football Show on Monday.
“They’re all well-versed in what to do on and off the ball, they look a very strong outfit at the minute and in Europe as well.
“I think Celtic need to change the momentum. They need to do something.
“Whether that’s changing the system, changing the manager. I don’t know what it is but I think at this precise moment, Rangers are strong favourites to win the league.”
Based on how Rangers have played in the opening months of this season, it’s entirely irrelevant what Celtic do.
They can sack their manager, re-sign a whole new squad or install new disco lights. It doesn’t matter to us because Gerrard’s men are flying.
Based on how things have gone so far, can anyone seriously stop this side?
Celtic are supposed to be the best team in the league yet Rangers beat them easily in the first Old Firm derby of the season and they looked calamitous in defence at Aberdeen on Sunday.
In Europe, Celtic’s form is poor too with them struggling to beat minnows from Eastern Europe before being swept aside by AC Milan.
While you can understand the defeat to Milan, it doesn’t help with their morale and momentum whereas Rangers’ are winning match after match in Europe.
In other Rangers news, Borussia Dortmund want to sign this international Gers player.
