‘Tremendous’ – Ally McCoist sends five-word message to Rangers star after win v Livi
Rangers forward Jermain Defoe scored the 300th goal of his decorated career on Sunday afternoon against Livingston.
Steven Gerrard’s decision to include the veteran forward raised many eyebrows around Ibrox, but it was justified in the first half.
After a superb ball from James Tavernier, Defoe had the audacity to calmly volley the ball home into the bottom corner with ease.
Defoe took to his personal Instagram account to celebrate his milestone, claiming the most important thing was actually the three points.
Ally McCoist begged to differ, and congratulated the forward on his achievement – something Defoe claimed meant a lot coming from the Ibrox legend.
“Well done pal,” he wrote. “Tremendous achievement.”
If there was one person you would want praise from at Ibrox, it is definitely Super Ally, he has been there and done it.
Defoe is also definitely in that category, with the Premier League legend still proving he can score goals for fun in Glasgow if given the service.
The squad depth available to Gerrard this season is something he has never really had at Ibrox, and it is making a massive difference.
With Alfredo Morelos struggling recently, many believed it would be Kemar Roofe to start against Livingston after his goal against Standard, but that wasn’t the case.
Roofe is also returning from injury, so having the likes of Defoe to come in whenever he is needed is superb and his experience and standing within the squad is going to be a massive help in the run for the title this season.
