‘Sublime’ – Gary McAllister singles out ‘very classy’ Rangers star in Livingston win
Gary McAllister has heaped praise on Rangers forward Jermain Defoe after his goal in the 2-0 win against Livingston on Sunday.
The first-half strike means that Defoe has scored in 19 consecutive seasons, and was also his 300th goal in his professional career.
Steven Gerrard went with the veteran forward ahead of Alfredo Morelos, Cedric Itten and Kemar Roofe and his decision was well and truly justified.
McAllister was delighted with the impact of Defoe, claiming the goal was made by his movement in the final third at Ibrox.
“I just loved the movement,” he told Rangers TV.
“Jermain, since arriving here, we’ve always seen the quality. When he’s on the pitch and he’s played games, he looks very, very dangerous.
“It’s the cleverness of movement, he’s been a classy player throughout his career in my view, and I just thought that was very typical of him today.
“The finish was sublime.”
It definitely was sublime.
To have the audacity to even attempt a first-time volley with the ball coming over your shoulder is special, but to pull it off with such ease if different class.
Defoe may not have played much, but having his experience in-and-around the squad will be vitally important this season, not just for the strikers, but for everyone.
Rangers have opened up a six-point gap, and they must kick on now, no matter who they start in the final third.
