Rangers investor touts potential ‘Cash windfall’ to bring in ‘New blood’ at Ibrox

Rangers investor Stuart Gibson has outlined the importance of another strong showing in Europe this season as he hopes for a “cash windfall” in the near future.

Gibson purchased an additional £5 million worth of shares in the Gers earlier this month, taking his total stake in Rangers to a reported 8.27%.

The Ibrox chief insists there is not ‘much money’ in winning any of the domestic trophies and that a strong run in Europe would allow Steven Gerrard to bring in more ‘new blood’ at Ibrox.

Gibson told Herald and Times Sport: “I am feeling pretty good. Keeping an eye with what is going on in Europe, because Europe is basically whether you are going to be in the red or the black to be quite honest.

“There is not much money winning the Premiership, not much money winning the League Cup or Scottish Cup. There is not much money there, it is really Europe.

“So if we can get results there in the next weeks, that is a cash windfall for the club and then Stevie can run over budget for new blood for the team.”

Last season the Gers managed to get to the round of 16 in the Europa League, where they were knocked out by German side Bayer Leverkusen.

Rangers are unbeaten in Europe this season and got their group stage campaign off to the best possible start by beating Standard Liege 2-0 away from home on Thursday.

It was a fantastic all-round performance from the Light Blues but Kemar Roofe stole the headlines as he came off the bench to score from his own half in the final seconds of the game and secure the three points.

This result sets the Gers up well in their quest to qualify for the knockout stages of the competition once again.

Their next European game is next Thursday when Rangers take on Polish side Lech Poznan at home as Steven Gerrard’s side look to secure the wins that can give the Gers boss a transfer boost ahead of the January transfer window.
