Exclusive: Pundit claims Gerrard ‘will have spoken to’ Rangers star after hooking him from game
We’re delighted to welcome former Rangers manager Alex McLeish as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Ibrox…
Alex McLeish has said that Steven Gerrard “will have spoken to” Alfredo Morelos after hooking him from the Old Firm game last weekend.
Morelos picked up a yellow card after 85 minutes and was substituted by Gerrard immediately after.
Rangers had the game won by that point in what turned out to be a fairly routine 2-0 victory.
McLeish also hailed Morelos’ display and said he showed a “clever” and “deceptive” side to his game.
Talking exclusively to Ibrox News McLeish said, “Morelos had a pretty decent game. He’s still got his wee tendencies to be in the eye of the camera at certain moments.
“As soon as he picked up his yellow card Gerrard hooked him from the game. Stevie will have spoken to him.
“I thought he played a pretty clever game – he’s more deceptive than I thought.
“And that game showed his skills at luring Celtic defenders in. I know people crave a striker who can hold a ball up and he did that well, and his distribution was good.
“There wasn’t much in terms of goal opportunities but he had a decent game.
“There was a wee bit of rotation and at times you’d see Morelos tracking back and Kent was in the middle. They swapped positions.
“He varied his game and you have to be unselfish. There are times he needs to be saying I’m the principal goal scorer and I need to be in the box, but he will get his goals.”
Morelos has to wait longer for his first goal against Celtic but the three points is all that matters.
His yellow card was his third in nine Premiership games this season as discipline still threatens to be an ongoing issue for the hitman.
