‘Unbelievable’ – Chris Sutton blown away by one Rangers player in 2-0 win v Standard Liege

Chris Sutton was blown away by Kemar Roofe’s stunning late goal in Rangers’ 2-0 win against Standard Liege on Thursday night.

Roofe, 27, came off the bench to replace Alfredo Morelos in the 74th minute and managed to seal the Scottish Premiership leaders’ winner with an amazing goal from the halfway line in stoppage time.

The former Leeds and West Brom player made himself some space with three Standard Liege players around him before looking up, seeing the goalkeeper off his line and then launched the ball into the back of the Belgian club’s net.

It really was remarkable and is arguably one of the best goals in Rangers’ history in European football.

Ex-Celtic striker Sutton always has some kind of back-handed compliment to make about the Gers whenever they win a match but in this case, all be could do is applaud Roofe’s stunning goal.

Writing via his personal Twitter account at full-time, Sutton said: “What an unbelievable goal from Kemar Roofe.”

We’re still trying to work out what just happened.

One moment the ball was in Rangers’ half and the next the Standard goalkeeper was on the ground with the net rippling behind him.

Roofe will have enjoyed that.

He joined Rangers from Anderlecht in the summer after one season-ravaged injury with the Belgian club, who are major rivals of Standard in the Belgian top-flight.

The 27-year-old scored away in Liege in Anderlecht’s 1-1 draw there last season and there appeared to be some bad blood between him and one of the home players at full-time when he was approached by a mask-wearing individual.

We hope there was nothing malicious going on and that it was purely down to rivalry but you really love to see Rangers players boiling blood wherever they go. Whether it’s in Glasgow or in Europe.
