‘One thing’s for sure’ – Exclusive: McLeish delivers verdict on Rangers v Standard Liege clash
We’re delighted to welcome former Rangers manager Alex McLeish as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Ibrox…
Alex McLeish has said that there could be even more pressure on Rangers to beat Standard Liege tonight after the Belgian side lost three players to positive Covid-19 tests.
He also said that it would be a “really tough test” for Steven Gerrard’s men.
Tonight’s game is the first in the Europa League group stage as Rangers get their campaign going in earnest in a 5.55pm kick-off.
Talking exclusively to Ibrox News McLeish said, “There’s maybe more pressure on Rangers to win after the Standard Liege players have been ruled out after positive Covid tests.
“They’re going to have three or four players missing.
“Belgians are notoriously tough teams and Standard Liege have a good record in Europe over the years.
“They always seem to unearth some terrific players.
“One thing’s for sure, they play fast, attractive football and I think it will be a really tough game for Rangers tonight.”
Rangers are on a fantastic run at the moment – unbeaten in all competitions this season.
Standard Liege are fourth in the Belgian first division but have only lost one game in their first nine.
Three points would be a huge boost for the Gers as they look to dominate on both main fronts after their 2-0 win against Celtic on Saturday.
