‘I’ve made my feelings known’ – Gerrard in talks with Rangers board over future of 24y/o
Steven Gerrard has told sporting director Ross Wilson and the Rangers board that he wants Glen Kamara tied down to a new contract.
Kamara, 24, has been in outstanding form for the Light Blues this season and was linked with Belgian giants Anderlecht earlier this month.
The Finland international’s contract at Ibrox doesn’t expire until 2023 but that hasn’t stopped Gerrard from speaking to his superiors about getting the midfielder tied down to fresh terms.
“I’ve made my feelings known to Ross and the board on that situation,” said Gerrard, as quoted by the Daily Record.
“We want Glen around us for as long as possible and everyone knows my feelings on that situation.”
Kamara’s gone under the radar at Rangers since his arrival from Dundee for £50,000 in January 2019.
Rangers legend Barry Ferguson has recently told Open Goal that the ex-Arsenal midifelder “never gets mentioned” when it comes to praising the Gers’ midfield.
However, the Finnish ace is getting all the credit he deserves lately for both his club and at international level.
As long as Kamara keeps playing well, there are going to be pundits and fans talking about his performances and there will inevitably be speculation in the media surrounding his future at Ibrox.
Although he’s already been linked with Anderlecht, it seems tenuous at the moment.
But there will come a day when there is more serious interest in Kamara because let’s face it, that’s the sort of thing that happens to good players.
Kamara has been a wonderful signing for the Gers and we hope that a new contract can be sorted out for him as soon as possible to at least strengthen the club’s position if someone comes calling for the 24-year-old in January.
