‘Wow’ – BBC actor baffled as Rangers star misses out on SPFL TOTW
Rangers-mad actor Stephen Purdon is baffled that Glen Kamara has been left out of the SPFL’s Team of the Week despite an impressive display against Celtic on Saturday.
The SPFL’s official Twitter account revealed the Team of the Week on Tuesday and Connor Goldson is the only Rangers player to be named in the XI after the centre-back scored both goals in the Gers’ 2-0 Old Firm victory at Parkhead.
Purdon, who stars in BBC’s River City, cannot believe that there’s no place for Kamara in the team even though the Finland international was arguably the best player on the pitch at Celtic Park at the weekend.
Writing via his personal Twitter account, Purdon said: “No Kamara……? Wow.”
The SPFL does not pick more than one player from one club so it was either Kamara or Goldson due to that.
You really cannot leave Goldson out as he’s a centre-back who scored both goals in Rangers’ 2-0 win away against Celtic. But, if you were going to leave him out, Kamara would have been a worthy replacement.
According to stats by WyScout, Kamara completed 86 per cent of his passes at Celtic Park, made four interceptions and six recoveries and made three progressive runs.
After the match on Saturday, Purdon suggested that he was impressed by Kamara’s display against Neil Lennon’s midfield.
The former Dundee and Arsenal man had an impact when the Gers were both in and out of possession but, again, the people who do these team of the week stories don’t delve too deep into the stats. If they see a centre-back scoring two goals away from home, they’re going to be in the team even if they have a zero per cent pass accuracy and didn’t complete any tackles of interceptions.
Goldson deserves his spot in that team and all the praise he’s had since Saturday’s match.
But Kamara keeps on going under the radar with his performances and the longer that goes on for, the better.
