Football finance expert makes big claim about Rangers in Premier League after £4.6bn Sky reveal
Football finance expert Kieran Maguire has said that if the Big Six in the Premier League break off and go down the “World Soccerball League route”, a top-flight with Rangers and Celtic in would be “pretty appetising”.
His comments come after a bombshell revelation on Sky Sports that have rocked the European football world.
Liverpool and Manchester United are reportedly in talks to join a new FIFA-backed European Premier League that could eventually see them break ties with the domestic game.
Arsenal, Chelsea, Man City and Tottenham are also “candidates” for the new league.
It’s said that five Premier League teams could be invited to the new league, while the Daily Record has reported that neither Rangers nor Celtic appear to be in the mix.
Price of Football’s Kieran Maguire said in response, “A Premier League with Everton, Leeds, Newcastle, Villa, Wolves, Leicester, West Ham, Rangers and Celtic all chasing the title would be pretty appetising if the Rich Six decide to go down the World Soccerball League route.”
Let them leave
The European Premier League bombshell comes after the botched Project Big Picture proposal from Liverpool and United, who seem absolutely determined to use the global pandemic to further and enrich themselves.
The idea of a European super league has been talked about in different iterations for a long time without coming to fruition.
At the same time, the prospect of Rangers and Celtic playing in the Premier League is also a much-talked-about topic.
If the Big Six (or five) did break away from the Premier League, it would actually present the perfect opportunity for it to happen.
For Rangers and Celtic, it would be a big financial boost, while the Premier League would get a huge surge in interest. They would need to do something if they lost the giants from their competition.
The Premier League would also be much more competitive.
The more we think about it, the more we’re coming round to the idea.
